Role Overview:
- As a software developer for New York Life's Technology Organization, you will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and deploying software applications by analyzing user needs, creating efficient code, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining existing software to ensure optimal functionality and performance across various platforms;?collaborating with other team members throughout the development lifecycle.
What You'll Do:
- Designs and codes programs; creates test transactions and runs tests to find errors and revise programs. Writes documentation that describes installation and operating procedures.
- Writes new programs of moderate complexity and scope, working with basic applications systems designs and specifications and utilizing standard procedures and techniques.
- Work effectively with other developers, designers, project managers, and quality assurance teams to design, code, test, and implement application programs. Assists in developing application specifications.
- Participates in post-implementation reviews of both application development content and process to maximize and share learning.
- Provide daily operational support for production systems.
What You'll Bring:
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript)
- Knowledge of database technologies (SQL and preferably Oracle)
- Demonstrates understanding of application development methods, including agile and waterfall, as well as the fundamentals of requirement specification, design, coding, and testing of business applications systems.
- Has a strong working understanding of installed systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve many problems on the existing systems supported.
- Demonstrates proficiency with one or more technology environments, with the ability to learn and apply new and emerging concepts very quickly.
- Demonstrates familiarity and strong working knowledge of the relevant programming languages and tools for the application area.
- Tests, implements, documents, and maintains system components based on specifications. Also modifies tests and troubleshoots existing tools and utilities.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
- Understanding of Agile development practices
- Understands the structure and basic processes of the IT organization.
- Develops a basic understanding of the industry and the products and services of the company.
Preferred Skills:
- Builds and maintains strong working knowledge of the business area and the applications that support it.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skill
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $60,000-$102,500
Overtime eligible: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
