L’Oréal’s in-house US programmatic trading desk (leDesk) leverages best-in-class programmatic media through a high-functioning and integrated team to drive business-building performance via data-driven activations and breakthrough innovation.
Job Summary
The Director of Programmatic Media (leDesk), Division Lead will deliver best-in-class, data-driven impact for L’Oreal while showcasing collaboration, a sense of empathetic leadership, and accountability. In this role you will lead a small and nimble team of media agency and/or in-house programmatic media planners/traders in campaign management, planning, reporting and optimization across all brands within that division. You will provide strategic guidance and support the delivery of best-in-class, consumer-centric media plans and activations that drive business impact in accordance with best practices, Global Golden Rules and operational excellence. Additionally, as a Programmatic Strategic Workstream Lead, you will also lead key portfolio-wide initiatives for our team in delivering long-term, future-forward ways of working and innovation for specific workstreams in our programmatic process. This role reports to the AVP/Head of Programmatic Media.
Divisional Lead Responsibilities
- Serve as the leader for divisional team with oversight of strategy, planning and activation specific to programmatic
- Effective and empathetic management and support of your team by facilitating psychological safety and collaboration
- Apply, strategize, and scale L’Oréal data strategy within programmatic to maximize results
- Oversight of recommendations, trading setup, delivery management (pacing, budget, spend), analysis and reporting for programmatic campaigns
- Ensure all programmatic campaigns are executed with consistency and excellence as defined by local and global L’Oreal standards
- Multi-task, prioritize, and balance time across brand stakeholders, multiple partner relationships and internal initiatives while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Maintain a deep understanding of innovation capabilities, the L’Oreal business & existing and emerging buying platforms (TTD, DV360)
- Work closely with the senior brand team and divisional media leads to contribute to the success of cross-channel programmatic client campaigns
- Liaise between key internal groups (consumer insights, IT, oneMedia, research/analytics & operations)
- Be seen as resource in terms of gathering and distributing research around the programmatic industry
- Successfully work with inter-agency omnichannel planning and investment leads to drive efficient ways of working and best-in-class media plans
- As a member of programmatic leadership team, support lead initiatives and work to support the programmatic excellence (planning, trading and operations) and strategic workstream leads (DigitalTV, SSP, audience targeting, sales studies, etc.) with key initiatives and scaling/socializing best practices
- Effectively partner & liaise between key internal (Data Activation DDX, Search, Social, Retail Media, Digital IT, Advanced Analytics research/analytics, Media Operations) teams and external partners (agency, DSP, SSP, ad tech)
- Assist in designing and delivering performance updates, optimizations, business reviews, new audience-based programmatic solutions and growth opportunity presentations
- Presenting and submitting case studies of the work our team does to internal teams and cross-functionally in internal, department-wide and inter-agency meetings.
- Consistent oversight, feedback, and effective feedback for your team and/or the media agency programmatic team
Strategic Workstream Lead Responsibilities
Programmatic Planning Co-Lead
- Planning Standardization – Including but not limited to evolving best practices related to line item and on-target reach calculations, # of brand lift questions, extent of creative variation, approved PMP/PG partner selection, data/audience strategy and wrap reporting
- Partner with other team workstream leads (Trading, Audience Targeting, Digital TV, Reporting & Analytics, Sales Studies, etc.) to incorporate planning best practice consistency.
- Golden Rule Feedback & Compliance – Partner with leDesk lead team in evaluating Planning-related Global Golden Rules, establish local Golden Rules and ensure compliance
- Planner training: Lead and partner with resources to handle new planner/cross-strategist onboarding, ensuring they complete a formal, structured onboarding, ad hoc training requests
- Planning Innovation: Spearhead learning agenda and innovation roadmaps for planner innovation, test & learns and ways of executing tests
- Audit support (when applicable): Partner to help communicate with relevant planners regarding audit needs and questions; Addressing feedback/questions from auditors related to planning processes
- Spearhead trouble-shooting any escalating planning process issues
- Develop annual leDesk Planning Frame/Strategic Pillars that inform key Planning focal points for the year
- Co-lead Planner Roundtable meetings among full leDesk (in-house + media agency) planning/cross-strategist team to share your ongoing priorities, collect feedback from traders and provide a forum for address key concerns/opportunities for improvement
What We Are Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience digital media experience across display, video, social and mobile; a minimum of 5 years hands-on-keyboard programmatic; 6-8+ years of experience digital media experience across display, video, social and mobile; a minimum of 3+ years hands-on-keyboard programmatic
- Strong understanding of the programmatic ecosystem (e.g. exchanges, DSPs, data offerings, auction types, marketplace dynamics, etc.) and ability to demonstrate that knowledge
- Experience with audience strategy and tactical deployment across data types (1P, 2P, 3P)
- Proven ability to distill complex data into meaningful and actionable insights
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with data analysis in Excel (pivot tables, advanced functions)
- Solution-orientation with strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communicator
- Proven experience navigating ambiguity, changes or challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience directly managing at least one (1) team member is highly recommended
- Accountability and flexibility with leaders is strongly preferred
