Job Description:

Director of Institutional Giving

iMentor is seeking a Director of Institutional Giving to expand partnerships with foundation and government funders. The Director will manage a portfolio of key institutional partners, leading cultivation and stewardship strategies while developing compelling proposals and reports that showcase iMentor's impact.

In collaboration with finance, program, research, and evaluation teams, the Director will ensure strong partnerships that drive growth and advance iMentor's mission to support first-generation college students through mentorship. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape iMentor's institutional funding strategy and build high-impact partnerships.

iMentor is a fast-growing national organization with offices in NYC, Chicago, and Baltimore. The Director will join a 12-person development team reporting to the Managing Director of Institutional Giving. The team operates on a hybrid schedule, with a preference for candidates based in NYC, Chicago, or Baltimore who can work in-person two days per week.

Institutional Portfolio Management (60%)

 

  • Lead the strategy, planning, and execution for a portfolio of institutional partners, focusing on expanding relationships with foundations and government funders capable of giving $100K+.
  • Build and maintain high-impact relationships with funding institutions, program officers, and partner organizations, prioritizing funders with multi-geographic and enterprise-level giving potential.
  • Set portfolio priorities, revenue goals, and performance benchmarks in collaboration with the Managing Director of Institutional Giving.
  • Ensure full compliance with funder requirements, proactively communicate progress, and manage regular check-ins, site visits, and presentations to highlight key outcomes and emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Development Manager and prospect research team to identify and qualify new funding opportunities and develop targeted cultivation strategies for prospective funders.

Grants Management and Development Operations (20%)

  • Lead the development of compelling, high-quality grant proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, and other funder materials that effectively communicate iMentor's mission and impact.
  • Partner with the Philanthropic Operations team to gather data and information needed for funder deliverables, ensuring accuracy and alignment with funder expectations.
  • Manage the internal grants calendar, ensuring on-time submission of all proposals, reports, and related deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate records of institutional donor activities and communications using operational systems and tools, tracking deadlines and engagement touchpoints to ensure seamless funder management.

Team Leadership and Collaboration (20%)

  • Mentor and support professional growth for team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to ensure fundraising strategies align with organizational priorities and initiatives.
  • Represent iMentor at key organizational events and contribute to organization-wide revenue initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising with a proven track record of managing and growing an institutional revenue pipeline.  Experience with government and foundation funders preferred.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Deep knowledge of the fundraising landscape and best practices in donor communications, with the ability to adapt strategies for institutional partners.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable plans.
  • Proven success in internal and external relationship management, with the ability to cultivate and sustain partnerships that achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Superior project management skills, capable of overseeing multiple high-stakes projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Flexible and adaptive, with a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving and a collaborative mindset for navigating challenges and driving change.
  • Demonstrated commitment to iMentor's mission and values.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range $90,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience
  • Up to 100% employer funded comprehensive medical and dental coverage
  • 18 days paid annual vacation (increasing annually to 21, 23, 25), 13 paid holidays + your birthday + one floating holiday, iMentor closed between Christmas and New Year's Day, plus 6-7 sick days annually
